The branch was established in 1998 in the city of Pyatigorsk.

The learning process includes a course of lectures and seminars, practical and laboratory classes, educational and pre-diploma practice.

The Pyatigorsk branch of the Russian University of Economics carries out research activities in the following areas:

• Correlation of State Power and Local Self-Government: Problems of Theory and Practice,
• Constitutional and legal regulation of relations in the sphere of the foundations of the organization and interaction of state and municipal public institutions, the relationship between the state and the individual,
• Topical issues of the organization of prosecutorial supervision over the preliminary investigation, inquiry and operational-search activities,
• Topical issues of criminal liability for certain types of crimes,
• Economic interests and incentives in the field of scientific and technological progress,
• Financial management in the activities of business entities,
• Accounting and reporting. Analysis of economic activity,
• Economic and mathematical methods and models in the assessment and forecasting of economic processes,
• Mathematical methods and tools in socio-economic research and information technology,
• Intercultural communication and teaching foreign languages at the university.

The branch conducts international cooperation with the organization of the Republic of Uzbekistan IQ Land Servis LLC.

To involve students in social and scientific activities, the university organizes and takes part in the following events:

The educational process takes place in two educational buildings equipped with classrooms for lectures and seminars, practical and laboratory work. The classrooms are equipped with modern technical support: projectors, screens, laptops and electronic boards. 

Students are given access to the university's library system with a reading room.

For sports, PRUE has gymnastics and sports halls.

In the branch of PRUE, the academic year is divided into two semesters: autumn and spring. At the end of each of them, an examination session is held, after passing the students, they are given vacations (in winter in January, in summer in July and August).
