Portland State University is a state research university in Portland, Oregon. It was founded in 1946 as an institution of higher education for veterans of the Second World War and over the next two decades turned into a four-year college and received university status as early as 1969. It is the only state urban university in the state of Oregon, located in the state capital and governed by a board of trustees. The university belongs to the category R2 - the doctoral university (the highest level of research activities on the classification of Carnegie universities).

Portland State University offers students 10 cultural centers and 150 student clubs that allow them to find a hobby, a favorite thing out of school, to meet like-minded people.
Since 1966, the Outdoor program has been inviting PSU students to spend more time outdoors, offering hiking, walking tours, one-night outings, and other outdoor activities that allow them to experience the wild side of Oregon.
First-year students enter one of seven learning communities, find themselves among peers with similar interests, have constant access to teachers, and interact with them outside the classroom. Each community is staffed by an assistant who provides academic support to students.

Foreign students present a high school diploma / certificate of completion, a university graduate certificate for a university equivalent to a US high school with an aggregate (total) grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
