Description of Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory

The conservatory was founded in 1866 and was called the Moscow Imperial Conservatory. The institution provides bachelor's, specialist and postgraduate level qualifications in the fields of musical performance and music studies. This conservatory is the second oldest in Russia after the conservatory in St. Petersburg. 

Faculties and colleges

The Conservatory carries out the educational process on the basis of the following faculties:

  • Training Department;
  • Piano;
  • Orchestral;
  • Vocal;
  • Scientific and composer's;
  • Historical and contemporary performing arts;
  • Advanced training;
  • Symphonic and choral conducting.

Also at the IGC there is an Academic Music College, which provides educational services at the level of secondary vocational education.

The Conservatory has one of the best (in architectural and acoustic significance) philharmonic halls in Moscow:

Accommodation, meals, prices

The conservatory has two canteens and two buffets for 308 seats in total.

For nonresident students, 2 buildings of the hostel are provided, in which about 948 people can live at the same time. The room can accommodate 2 people, each has a piano. In the dormitory there are classes for rehearsal and self-study, laundry and luggage storage. For comfortable leisure and recreation of students in the hostel there is a home cinema, and next to it there is a club and sports grounds.

The Conservatory organizes musical groups participating in various events at the university and city levels:

  • Symphony Orchestra;
  • Chamber Orchestra;
  • Opera house;
  • Opera Workshop;
  • Opera Chorus;
  • Chamber Choir of the Moscow Conservatory;
  • Ensemble of soloists "Studio of New Music";
  • Ensemble "O-Natsu".

Facilities and equipment at Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory

The Conservatory owns 3 buildings, in which the entire educational process is carried out. Classrooms for individual lessons and consultations have a good material and technical base: TVs, speakers, stereo audio detectors, three-channel stereo mixers, screens and projectors. Depending on the specialty taught in the classroom, the appropriate musical instruments and the necessary musical and technical equipment are present in the classrooms. To work with specialized materials, a media library containing more than 30 thousand gramophone records, 7 thousand magnetic tapes, 22 thousand CDs and 26 thousand MP3 files for streaming is organized .

The Conservatory has a scientific music library named after S. I. Taneev, the volume of the library fund of which is 1,469,343 copies, to which students have free access. 
For sports activities, students are provided with a sports hall of the Academic Music College at the Moscow State Conservatory named after P. I. Tchaikovsky.

Admission dates and extra charges

At the Conservatory, the learning process in the academic year is divided into two semesters: autumn and spring. At the end of each, an examination session is held, after which students are given a vacation (in winter in January, in summer - in July and August).

Additional student expenses can include:

Enrolment process

When entering the conservatory, the applicant must provide the admission committee with the following list of documents:

  • Identity and citizenship document;
  • Document on education and qualifications;
  • A document confirming registration in the individual accounting system (if any);
  • A document confirming disability or disability (if any);
  •  A document confirming that the applicant belongs to persons who are granted a corresponding special right;
  • Documents confirming individual achievements;
  • Four photos 3x4.

This package of documents can be submitted to the audience in one of the following ways:

  • Personally entering the admission committee;
  • By mail;
  • In electronic form — in the Personal Account of the applicant of the electronic information system of the conservatory;
  • In electronic form through EPGU (super service "Enter the university online").

In 2022, more than 280 applicants successfully coped with all entrance examinations.

Perspectives

After receiving higher musical education at the conservatory, the doors of orchestral groups of various theaters, the opportunity to teach in music schools, colleges, colleges and conservatories are open to the graduate.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

For admission to the educational programs of the bachelor's degree in specialization, the applicant must:

  • Completed education not lower than secondary general;
  • Use scores not lower:

  • Literature — 45.
  • Points obtained on the basis of the results of entrance examinations are not lower:

  • Professional test — 60;
  • Interview — 70.

For admission to postgraduate programs it is necessary:

  • Successful completion of entrance examinations with the following minimum scores:

  • General professional exam – 4,
  • Entrance Test in Philosophy – 4,
  • Entrance test in a foreign language – 4.

Students of the Full-Time Conservatory are provided with the following types of material support:
