The Moscow Institute of Architecture is the leading architectural school in Russia, which has a 250-year history. During its work, MARKHI has trained a large number of highly qualified specialists for subsequent work in architectural schools in Russia and the CIS countries. The Institute has links with many architectural and artistic foreign universities.

The staff of THE MOSCOW Architectural Institute consists of about 400 teachers, of which 138 are professors and associate professors with academic degrees of doctors and candidates of science.

The research activities of the Institute include fundamental, priority applied research and design and experimental developments, which are carried out in the fields of architecture, urban planning, design of the architectural environment and engineering sciences. Innovative vectors of scientific activity are focused both on traditional (new knowledge is accumulated in the educational process), and on design and competitive activities, on managerial architectural and urban planning practice. The organizational sphere of scientific activity covers scientific student creativity, magistracy, postgraduate studies, preparation of doctoral dissertations and all interdisciplinary activities of scientific schools and laboratories.

Students have the opportunity to present the results of their scientific activities in the framework of an annual scientific conference, the results of which are published a collection of abstracts and a collection of articles highlighting the results of student research. 

In addition, the scientific journal AMIT is organized at the Institute, which is included in the "List of leading peer-reviewed scientific journals and publications". Researchers in the field of architecture, including employees of the Moscow Architectural Institute and graduate students, have the opportunity to publish the results of their scientific activities there.

Since 1994, MARKHI has been accredited by the Royal Institute of British Architects. Over the years, the Institute has been successfully cooperating at the regional and global levels with universities and educational centers of many foreign countries. Since 2009, MARKHI has been accepted as a member of the European Association for Architectural Education, a member of the International Federation of Urban Planning and Planning. The main goal of international cooperation is the integration of the institute into the world educational space.

In MARKHI there is a dormitory (115 residential blocks, of which 22 are double, 93 are five-bed blocks (double and triple rooms)). Each block has a bathroom, each floor is equipped with a kitchen. The hostel is equipped with two sports halls, two working rooms, a linen room and a laundry room.

Annually the Institute holds:

To date, about 1700 undergraduate and graduate students (residents of Russia, CIS countries, Europe, Asia, North and South America) study at MARKHI.

Postgraduate students of the Moscow Architectural Institute, who have successfully defended their dissertations at the Academic Council, receive the scientific degree of Candidate of Architecture, which is equivalent to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the West.

Based on the decision of the Academic Council of the Moscow Architectural Institute in 2001, the "Department for Promoting Employment of Graduates and Student Practice (OTiP)" was established. The main goal of the department is to assist students and graduates in building a career, adapting them to the needs and conditions of the labor market, assisting in finding temporary and permanent employment. OTiP cooperates with design institutes of Moscow and the Moscow region, architectural and construction organizations in order to provide students with places for practical training, their temporary employment, organization of interviews of GRADUATES of THE MOSCOW Architectural Institute with potential employers.

Applicants with secondary general, secondary vocational or higher education, confirmed by the relevant document, are allowed to study at the MOSCOW Architectural Institute. 

Minimum number of passing scores for entrance tests:

• Drawing (additional entrance test of professional orientation) – 20;
• Drawing (additional entrance test of creative orientation for the specialty "Architecture") – 20;
