The university was founded in 1957 in the city of Cherepovets. The institution conducts training at the level of specialist, master's and adjuncture.

The training process includes a course of lectures and seminars, practical and laboratory classes, and military drill training.

The university accepts only men.

Cadets for the period of study, the university provides two barracks, designed for 1000 seats. The rooms are occupied by 10 people (junior courses) and 3-4 people (undergraduates).

For meals for cadets, the university has a canteen designed for 1200 seats. Meals are organized three times a day according to the schedule of students.

To involve cadets in social activities, the university organizes and takes part in the following events:

• Military sports training camp "Autumn",
• Review competition of the system and songs,
• Lessons of courage,
• Exhibitions of the museum association of the city of Cherepovets.

The educational process is carried out in one campus, equipped with classrooms:

At VSD, the academic year is divided into two semesters: autumn and spring. Cadets are annually allocated vacation leaves - summer and winter - lasting 30 and 15 days, respectively.

After admission to training, students are fully budgeted, including accommodation and meals.

For admission to the VUR, you must provide:

• Proof of identity, citizenship,
• Military ID,
• State-recognized certificate of education and qualifications,
• Birth certificate,
• Characteristics from the place of work, study or service,
• Service card (for military personnel),
• Certificate of access to information constituting a state secret in the second form,
• Certificate from the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation on criminal and administrative liability,
• Map of professional psychological selection,
• Medical examination card,
• Three certified photographs measuring 4.5x6.

If necessary, the applicant also provides:

• Proof of use of the right to admission within a special quota,
• Confirmation of individual achievements, the results of which are taken into account when admitting.

The necessary package of documents is submitted to the university in person to the admissions office.

According to the results of admission in 2022, the minimum passing score for specialist programs was 170.

After graduation, students can sign a contract and realize themselves in work for the Ministry of Defense in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

For admission to bachelor's and specialist's educational programs, an applicant must:

• Completed education not lower than secondary general,
• Successful delivery of physical standards:
  • Pull-up on the crossbar,
  • Running for 100 meters,
  • Running for 3 kilometers.
• Points received for the exam are not lower than:
  • Mathematics — 40,
  • Physics — 36,
  • Russian language — 40.

For admission to master's programs, you must:
