Gymnasium №36 was founded in 1906. During its existence, it was a four-year men's school, then it taught only children from 14-15 years old for a fee, and then it became a nine-year general institution. Since 1997, the gymnasium has been teaching in the current mode, adding the teaching of some subjects in English. In 2007, this school became one of the laureates of the All-Russian competition "The Best Schools of Russia".

The gymnasium has 69 classrooms, fully equipped with the necessary materials for teaching children. Workshops, art and music classrooms, sports and assembly halls for physical education lessons and events have been prepared.

There is a sports stadium on the school territory, where football fields and sports grounds are equipped.
