The work of the institute began in 1992 in the city of Voronezh.

The learning process includes a course of lectures and seminars, practical and laboratory classes, educational and pre-diploma practice.

The educational process is organized in the following departments:

• Informatics and Computer Engineering,
• Information security and communication systems,
• Natural sciences and humanities,
• Electricity
• Nuclear power plants.

The Institute is engaged in research activities. During the existence of the university, the following works were written:

• Massive rotor induction motors,
• Multi-element flat motor with massive disc rotor,
• Induction motors with a conductive layer of rotor material,
• Asynchronous executive micromotors with increased energy performance,
• Analytical modeling of electromagnetic processes in asynchronous motors with a conductive rotor layer,
• Simulation of electromagnetic processes in induction motors with a conductive rotor layer by the finite element method,
• Simulation of electromagnetic processes in controlled asynchronous machines with a hollow rotor,
• Rational dimensional ratios in the perforated floor rotor of an asynchronous micromachine,
• Formation of a criterion for designing a DC motor for a single-purpose autonomous facility,
• Mathematical modeling and optimization of an induction motor with a double-layer gear rotor,
• Simulation and search for a rational design of a low-power induction motor with an increased starting torque,
• Installation of the development of the UPF-150T photoresist based on universal mechatronic modules,
• Selection of hardware implementation of digital control systems for servo electric drives,
• Microelectromechanical systems based on mechatronic modules with high specific energy performance,
• Calculations of thermal processes of a non-contact motor by the methods of the theory of circuits and finite elements.

Among the founders of the institute were not only institutions of Voronezh and Russia as a whole, but also organizations in Germany and Ukraine.

For nonresident full-time students, the university provides a dormitory for 261 places.

For meals for students and staff, the university has a buffet for 48 seats.

To involve students in social and scientific activities, the university organizes and takes part in the following events:

The educational process takes place in one educational building, which is equipped with classrooms for lectures and seminars, practical and laboratory work. The classrooms are equipped with modern technology: projectors, screens and personal computers. 

Students are given free access to the library with a reading room.

For sports, the institute has a sports and gym.

At MIKT, the academic year is divided into two semesters: autumn and spring. At the end of each of them, an examination session is held, after passing the students, they are given vacations (in winter in January, in summer in July and August).
