Admission to foreign universities
Enrolling in a university abroad after college is not only possible, but also easy. College graduates with a relevant secondary education have every chance of enrolling in a university to continue their studies in the same field. If the areas of specialization of the college and university do not coincide, then applicants who have graduated from college must take the same exams and tests as graduates of regular schools. At the same time, the main and general requirement for all applicants is a thorough knowledge of the official language in which the university conducts its classes.
For example, to enroll in Czech universities, you must submit documents proving that you have received specialized education: a college diploma, an academic transcript with a list of subjects studied, indicating academic hours and grades received. Documents are drawn up in the official language of the Czech Republic, knowledge of which is confirmed by the appropriate certificate.
A diploma from a specialized college is also taken into account when enrolling/applying to American higher education institutions. An attractive condition here is that if the college and university specialties coincide, individual courses are credited, which makes it possible to enter higher semesters. The administration of the US university itself determines which course to enroll an applicant who has graduated from a school/college. A positive decision depends on both standard and special requirements: matching specializations, correspondence between courses at the college and the specific university, number of academic hours completed, and grades. One of the main conditions for admission to an American university after college is the result of the TOEFL (mainly) or IELTS English language exam/test. It is important to note that this exam must have been taken no earlier than two years before the start of classes.
After graduating from college, you can apply to any university in Italy. The main requirement for this is an academic transcript of twelve years of study, indicating that you have passed the necessary exams and credits. As in other foreign universities, admission requires a certificate confirming your level of English or Italian (depending on the university and program chosen) of at least B2.
In your case, there is a possibility that the subjects you studied in your first year will be credited. If the number of credited subjects exceeds 70%, most universities usually allow students to enroll in the second year. To clarify this possibility, you need to submit a request to the admissions committee of the university you are interested in and provide a complete transcript of the subjects you took in your first year, with a certified translation into English. Since the duration of schooling in Canada is 12 years, most universities offer international students the opportunity to “make up” the missing year in a Foundation preparatory program, and then apply for the first year of a bachelor's degree. The Foundation program will also allow you to master the academic English you will need to complete your first-year coursework. Canada's top universities accept international students who have completed 11th grade only after completing the Foundation program. Less prestigious universities offer the opportunity to enroll in the first year or in the International Year One program (the first year of a bachelor's degree with additional English language support).
These fields are very popular in Italy and Spain. If you are considering programs in English, we recommend paying attention to the following educational institutions: IED Barcelona, IED Milan, Istituto Marangoni Milano.
Most universities abroad accept students based on their secondary education certificate and final exam results. However, some highly ranked educational institutions may conduct additional tests as part of the admissions process.
