EGTI has been operating since 1985 and is currently the only theatrical university in the Ural region, one of the best theatrical universities in Russia.

The Institute has a modern apartment-type dormitory for 200 beds, which is located in the heart of the city in the immediate vicinity of the educational buildings of the Institute. Meals are provided in the hostel.
Activities Ekaterinburg State Theatre Institute, EGTI
On the basis of EGTI within the walls of the Balandin estate there is a unique theater platform - the Educational Theater. Every year from October to May, the theater presents to the audience new performances in various genres: puppet shows for kids, classical and modern drama, experimental productions and concert programs; festivals, master classes and creative meetings are also held here. Performances of the Educational Theater annually take part in all-Russian and international festivals.
EGTI is actively developing its own projects, one of which is the All-Russian Open Competition of Performers of the Artistic Word. The competition is aimed at unlocking the creative potential of university students of all specialties and all forms of education, at improving the level of performing arts in professional and amateur student theaters, at supporting young performers of the artistic word.
The Institute also has a Youth Patriotic Theater, in which talented young actors of different nationalities participate, and leading specialists of the region are involved in the preparation of productions. This is a high-tech theater that uses 3D content, professional scenery and innovative stage solutions in its projects. Professional stuntmen take part in the staged fights of the performances.

The school year begins on September 1 and runs through a six-day school week.

The number of students for 2022 is 528 people, of which 49 are foreign citizens.
Perspectives
EGTI graduates successfully work in leading theaters, including administrative and managerial positions in Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Tyumen and other cities of Russia. Among them are laureates of the International and All-Russian Competitions of Operetta and Musical, TV Competition "Petersburg Engagement" Y. Nadervil and S. Klimovich, laureate of the International and All-Russian Competitions of Operetta and Musical A. Mezyukha.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol
The programs are designed for applicants with secondary general, secondary vocational or higher education.
Admission to the university is based on the results of the Unified State Exam or on the basis of the results of internal entrance tests.
Minimum passing scores for internal entrance tests:
- Creative orientation — 50;
- Professional orientation — 50;
- Interview — 50.
Minimum passing scores based on the results of the Unified State Exam in the Russian language/literature:
- Acting (specialist) – 52/42;
- Theatre Directing (Specialist) – 62/45;
