Czech University of Life Sciences Prague

Česká Zemědělská Univerzita v Praze or the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (abbreviated CULS) is a state-type educational institution of the Czech Republic that has been conducting its professional activities since 1906. The main university building is located within the boundaries of the small town of Prague.

This is a higher education institution, which is included in the list of the most prestigious Czech universities, is among the TOP-20 best in the country.

Education is organized in three cycles in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process.

The Career Center helps applicants choose a field of study, and helps students decide on a career path, expand their professional contacts, and find opportunities for development. Graduates can use the center's support for three years after graduating from the university. Consultations are available online via MS Teams.

• The Institute of Education and Communication offers only bachelor's programs in the Czech language,
• the Faculty of Economics and Management has a language department that runs Czech courses for doctoral students and foreign researchers.

• In 2020, the Faculty of AgriSciences launched the six-year DRIFT-FOOD project under the Horizon 2020 ERA Chairs programme. It was aimed at developing research in food technologies.
• The university took part in the development and testing of AGRIP — an agricultural technology that combines drones, multispectral cameras, artificial intelligence, and 5G SA networks.
• The university coordinated the BETTER Life project under the Horizon Europe programme, running from 2022 to 2025. Its goal was to create an EU digital hub for advanced, society-oriented life sciences research.
• In September 2026, the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences held the first PH-CZ STARR scientific meeting to develop academic and research cooperation between the Czech Republic and the Philippines. In the same month, the university was one of the main partners of the National Adaptation Day in Prague, linked to the launch of the Czech National Adaptation Centre.

• The university's international office operates the Welcome Centre, a support center for international researchers. It helps international staff with family relocation and choosing schools for their children,
• in 2025, the university's farms resumed operation of the milk vending machine.

• In September 2026, university farms in Lány held a harvest festival. Hundreds of visitors saw agricultural machinery and animals. The program included music and dancing,
• the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences, together with Lesy ČZU, is organizing a running race for the fifth time,
• the Welcome Centre coordinates leisure activities for the university's international staff.

This is a fairly large-scale educational institution, where every year about 24,000 students successfully complete their course of study. The teaching staff of a higher educational institution is about 1,400 teachers of the highest category. 

University infrastructure

University students have access to a large university library. For students built a modern large hostel. The educational institution is constantly evolving and becoming better and better, as evidenced by its entry into various scientific groups and communities.

Enrollment takes place at the beginning of the academic year, usually at the end of September.

• The registration fee is paid for each application and is not refunded at any stage of admission. Online payment by card is available,
• general recognition (nostrification) of foreign higher education is paid separately,
• if the standard duration of study is exceeded by more than one year, an additional fee is charged: for a bachelor's program — after four years of study, for a master's program — after three years. The charging period is six calendar months.

When calculating the duration of study, the period of the break and the day it started are not taken into account. Simultaneous study in several programs is counted only once. The payment deadline for the additional fee is set by the assessment decision and cannot fall earlier than 90 days after it is issued.

Admission to study at the university leads a special commission. At the same time, all potential students, both local and newcomers from around the globe, must provide documents on their academic progress and the results of exams taken at a time agreed in advance. The competition for admission is not so high. Three students simultaneously apply for each student’s place. As in most Czech universities, each academic year is formed by two classical semesters.

Cost of education

Studying here is not so expensive. For each semester, future bachelors must pay an amount of $ 1,250. Anyone who would like to get an education in graduate programs must be prepared to give even more - about $ 1,900 for each semester. In this case, you can save a little by getting a scholarship subject to good academic performance. The university is considered modern because, in addition to traditional forms of education, it also offers distance education, as well as constantly participating in international student and academic exchange programs.

The project to improve the quality of the internal grant system provides for the creation and piloting of a university-wide competition of student grants for the development of doctoral education.

When a fee for exceeding the study period is charged, a student may request a review of the decision, exemption from the fee, a reduction of the amount, splitting it into two payments, or a change of the payment deadline. The application must be submitted within 30 days after the decision on the charge is issued. An average grade of up to 1.25 for the previous period of study is among the grounds for reducing the fee for full-time and combined forms of study.
