The university was founded on December 3, 1943, but it is generally accepted that the history of the educational institution begins in 1919. ASFU is the oldest university in the Altai Territory.

The university provides nonresident full-time students with four dormitories, a total of 2349 places. The cost of living per month is from 355 rubles.

For meals for students and staff, ASFU has five canteens with 476 seats.

The education process is carried out in 7 buildings, equipped with classrooms for practical and lecture classes. Modern technologies are actively used in the classrooms: computers, projection screens, multimedia projectors, audio systems. 

Students are given free access to the educational and scientific library with four reading rooms for 90 seats.

For sports, the university has a sports complex with a gym, a running track and field athletics, a football field, a shooting range and a tennis hall.

At ASAU, the learning process is divided into two semesters: autumn and spring. At the end of each, an examination session is held, after passing the students, they are given vacations (in winter in January, in summer in July and August).
