Description of University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC)

The University of Northern British Columbia (abbreviated as UNBC) is a public higher education institution in Canada that has been active in academic work since the early 1990s. The campus is located near the town of Prince George.

It is about the average size and capacity of a higher education institution, where about 4,000 people take courses annually. The teaching staff of the university is about 400 teachers and professors. Students and faculty can apply and participate in student exchange programs.

Educational process

The university provides comprehensive student support — TELUS Student Street is home to the main student services:

  • Office of the Registrar,
  • International Exchange Office,
  • Departments of counselling, academic skills development, health and wellness, scholarships and financial aid, and student employment.

Accommodation, meals, prices

The main campus in Prince George houses student residences as well as a childcare centre.

Dining is organized in the university cafeteria: hot dishes are prepared to order, and there is a salad bar and sandwich station, with vegetarian options, ready-made sandwiches, and desserts always available. The dining hall features panoramic windows overlooking the courtyard, the city of Prince George, and the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Additionally, the campus has the Canfor Winter Garden area with a Tim Hortons café and Stackers Deli — popular student hangout spots.

Activities University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC)

The university's sports life centers around UNBC teams, including basketball teams competing in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association. The social heart of the campus is the Northern University Student Centre: it houses student clubs, recreation areas, the Thirsty Moose café and pub, student radio CFUR and student media, as well as venues for concerts and events.

In addition to academic programs, the university offers continuing education interest courses: from an introductory fly-fishing course to digital photography and design classes.
