University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC)

The University of Northern British Columbia (abbreviated as UNBC) is a public higher education institution in Canada that has been active in academic work since the early 1990s. The campus is located near the town of Prince George.

It is about the average size and capacity of a higher education institution, where about 4,000 people take courses annually. The teaching staff of the university is about 400 teachers and professors. Students and faculty can apply and participate in student exchange programs.

The university provides comprehensive student support — TELUS Student Street is home to the main student services:

• International Exchange Office,
• Departments of counselling, academic skills development, health and wellness, scholarships and financial aid, and student employment.

The academic structure of the university covers several levels of study:

• Undergraduate — for high school graduates and students transferring from colleges, as well as for those who wish to take individual courses,
• Graduate and Doctoral — Master's and Doctorate programs, as well as certificates and diplomas for those with higher education,
• Engineering master's program associated with the Wood Innovation and Design Centre,
• Continuing Education — professional development courses and certification programs, programs for executives and administrative assistants, as well as arts and design credits in partnership with OCAD University.

• The Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre is the largest facility of its kind in British Columbia, with the longest indoor running track in the province,
• The atrium of the administrative building Charles J. McCaffray Hall is decorated with banners by world-renowned artist Bill Reid,
• The university has a federated agreement with the Wilp Wilxo'oskwhl Nisga'a (WWN) institute.

The main campus in Prince George houses student residences as well as a childcare centre.

Dining is organized in the university cafeteria: hot dishes are prepared to order, and there is a salad bar and sandwich station, with vegetarian options, ready-made sandwiches, and desserts always available. The dining hall features panoramic windows overlooking the courtyard, the city of Prince George, and the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Additionally, the campus has the Canfor Winter Garden area with a Tim Hortons café and Stackers Deli — popular student hangout spots.

The university's sports life centers around UNBC teams, including basketball teams competing in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association. The social heart of the campus is the Northern University Student Centre: it houses student clubs, recreation areas, the Thirsty Moose café and pub, student radio CFUR and student media, as well as venues for concerts and events.

In addition to academic programs, the university offers continuing education interest courses: from an introductory fly-fishing course to digital photography and design classes.

It is a higher education institution that has been ranked among the best in the country for the past several years in a row. In addition, the university is also consistently in the list of TOP of the best universities in the world.

A huge scientific library is at the disposal of students of higher educational institutions. The university is considered an active member of various associations and groups, including the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC), the Association of Canadian Forest Schools (AUFSC) and the University of the Arctic (UArctic), the Canadian University Press (CUP) and the Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE).

Upon admission to the university, the admission committee relies on the past performance of each individual candidate in its decision. In this case, the academic year is divided classically - into two semesters. Foreign students and locals can join the ranks of students on the same conditions.
