The university was founded in 1956 and is the first technical university in the city of Lipetsk.

For nonresident full-time students, the university provides a comfortable dormitory of sectional planning. The section consists of a kitchen, a bathroom and two rooms. The area of one room is 18 sq.m., where up to 3 people can live. The cost of living in a hostel for a month is about 500 rubles.

For the meals of employees and students, the university equipped a cafe, a dining room, a confectionery shop and 11 buffets for 760 seats.

To involve students in the social life of universities, the university organizes the following events:

In LSTU there are creative associations:

The education takes place in one educational building, equipped with classrooms for lectures and practical classes. All rooms are equipped with a modern material and technical base, including projectors, screens and computers. 

Students have access to an electronic information and educational environment, thanks to which it is possible to use the educational and methodological material of all disciplines and educational programs. 

Students are also given the opportunity to visit the library, and electronic versions for the visually impaired are provided for students with visual impairments.

At LSTU, the learning process in the academic year is divided into two semesters: autumn and spring. At the end of each, an examination session is held, after which students are given holidays (in winter in January, in summer in July and August).

When studying at the university, students assume the following additional costs:

For admission to the university, applicants provide:

• State-issued document on education and qualifications;
• Documents confirming the use of the right to admission within a special quota;

According to the results of the admission campaign of 2022, more than 700 people entered the university for the budgetary form of undergraduate programs.

For admission to the educational programs of bachelor's and specialist's degree, the applicant must:

For admission to master's programs it is necessary:

• Successful passing of the entrance examinations of the university with scores not lower than 53.

For admission to postgraduate programs it is necessary:

• Successful passing of entrance tests, with scores not lower than 53:
