The university was founded in 1999 in the city of Irkutsk, trains qualified specialists in the field of sports and tourism.

The learning process includes a course of lectures and seminars, practical and laboratory classes, educational and pre-diploma practice.

The educational process is based on the following departments:

• General professional and special disciplines;
• Humanities and biomedical disciplines.

Scientific activity is carried out in the following areas:

• Study of motor function, taking into account digital dermatoglyphics in athletes of different specializations;
• Pedagogical aspects of the formation of an individual style of activity of specialists in physical culture and sports, monitoring of physical development and preparedness of the population of the Irkutsk region of various age groups and other studies in medical, biological, pedagogical and natural fields;
• Methodology of pedagogical design of educational activities in the process of training specialists in the field of physical culture and sports;
• Psychological and pedagogical support for the professional development of a future specialist in physical culture and sports.

The Irkutsk branch of the Russian State University of Physical Education, Youth and Youth is the leading educational institution in the field of physical culture and sports in the Irkutsk region and the main executor of orders for the training of specialists of the Ministry of Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Policy of the Irkutsk Region.

To involve students in a public university, organizes and participates in the following events:

The university provides nonresident full-time students with two dormitories (a total of 218 places).

For meals for students and staff, the university has a canteen with 250 seats.

The educational process is carried out on the basis of the educational building, which has classrooms for lectures. 

For sports, the university offers students the following facilities:

• Baikal Arena Sports Complex;
• Manege (FOK);
• Pool.

Also, students are given free access to the university's educational library with 33 seats in the reading room.

The academic year is divided into two semesters: autumn and spring. At the end of each, an examination session is held, after passing the students, they are given vacations (in winter in January, in summer in July and August).

For admission to bachelor's and specialist's educational programs, an applicant must:

• Biology — 36.

For admission to master's programs, you must:
