Desde el inicio de sus estudios en universidades rusas, los estudiantes realizan trabajos prácticos y de laboratorio, asisten a talleres y seminarios. El plan principal de formación también incluye el análisis y estudio de la biodiversidad de los mundos animal y vegetal, suelos, cuerpos de agua y microorganismos. Los estudiantes analizan en detalle cuestiones de ecología, conservación de la naturaleza, genética y citología. Además de la actividad académica principal, los estudiantes realizan excursiones conjuntas en grupos al bosque y a las zonas montañosas para explorar la naturaleza circundante junto con los profesores.
Tras graduarse, los estudiantes en los primeros seis meses probablemente encontrarán un empleo bien remunerado en empresas fiables. Hoy en día, las áreas relacionadas con la biología son muy populares, ya que los salarios en el campo actual son bastante altos. Un graduado de una universidad biológica puede trabajar como:
- Investigador, profesor en un instituto científico o museo
- Empleado en una empresa biotecnológica, agrobiológica, médica o innovadora
- Profesor de biología en la escuela o profesor de educación adicional
- Médico o veterinario
- Trabajo en un ministerio o departamento
- Diseñador de paisajes.
