The history of art and architecture emerged as an intellectual discipline: it includes a careful analysis of art, its interpretation as a vivid evidence of the development of human society. Since the 1980s, there has been a growing desire to find adequate ways of understanding art, architecture, design and their consumption, going beyond the previously accepted "canon" of high art.
