Novosibirsk is a recognized center of Siberia with a developed industry, therefore it is natural that prestigious research centers, higher educational institutions, accumulating around themselves a strong academic community, capable students and novice scientists, operate here.
The region's rapid economic growth has led to the development of the information technology sector, and now large energy and industrial complexes operate here. The famous Novosibirsk Akademgorodok, a unique scientific cluster, unites a dozen research institutes, software manufacturers, a technopark, numerous research institutes and the headquarters of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It is the third most important scientific and educational center in Russia after Moscow and St. Petersburg, founded in 1958.
