Description

The International Year One Program

  • Age of participants: from 16 years
  • Duration of the programs: 1, 2 or 3 semesters
  • Beginning of classes: January, August
  • Level of education: high school diploma with good marks
  • GPA: 2.5 to 4
  • Knowledge of English: IELTS 5.0-5.5, TOEFL 50-60 or equivalents
  • Language of instruction: English
  • Participants: foreign citizens.

International Year One is a special program for international students, which allows admission to the bachelor's specialties without loss of time through an adaptation course containing all the main disciplines in the chosen direction. Studying lasts 1, 2 or 3 semesters (4, 9 or 16 months, respectively), the duration is determined in accordance with the level of English and academic performance. If necessary, before admission, applicants can take special English courses. Students have the opportunity to choose one of 10 directions:

  • Mathematics and Statistics.

In each of the directions, students study a set of disciplines and subjects that are necessary for the full disclosure of topics and questions about future specialization. The complex is formed from the main and additional modules, divided into three large blocks:

  • Academic English. The language is taught to participants of the 2nd and 3rd semester courses (participants of the semester courses have an already high level). Classes include exercises on the basic sections of linguistics: grammar, listening, speaking and writing. Much attention is paid to the development of literate speech skills, a clear and correct presentation of their thoughts and ideas. Students significantly expand their vocabulary and learn to correctly use the language in the process of communication. During the program, the level of the language is significantly increased.
  • Subjects in the chosen direction. An extensive set of disciplines required for the disclosure of topics in the chosen direction. Students, in general, receive the same knowledge as ordinary freshmen, but in a more universal form.If successful, students do not experience problems with knowledge after completing the program and moving to the basic bachelor's courses.

Skills of study at the university and research skills. Education in a university in the United States requires a compulsory knowledge of special studying skills and the ability to apply them in practice. Foreign students actively master these skills in special occupations, and, during the course, become ready for the process of obtaining higher education at an American university.

In addition to these modules, all participants of the International Year One receive effective assistance from teachers, mentors and university staff on all emerging educational and personal issues. Efforts of all experts working with students are aimed at the fastest and painless process of adaptation to the education system, the learning processes and the way of life. All classes are conducted by exceptional professionals in their field - university lecturers and invited experts. Each student receive a certain number of credits, which are then counted and transferred to the basic bachelor's program. Upon completion of the program, students move to the next semester in the Bachelor's degree and continue their studies.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ENROLLMENT

  • The level of the English language for participation: IELTS from 5 to 5.5, TOEFL 50 - 60 or equivalents (examination certificates are valid for 2 years from the date of delivery, the university reserves the right to require additional testing for English language knowledge of any student)
