Description

A-level

A two-year course for high school students aged 16-18 simultaneously completes the school curriculum (getting a secondary education), and prepares graduates for admission to the chosen university for the desired specialty. The A-level program is academically complex and intensive, subjects are studied very thoroughly, almost at the university level - but the A-level certificate frees its owner from passing the entrance exams even in the most top-ranked universities.

All the subjects for the personal curriculum of the student are chosen independently: there are 4 disciplines for the first year (AS-level) and 3 of those chosen for the second year (they also are given at the final exams). Additionally, senior students are taught the AQA Baccalaureate course. Here are some statistics:

  • 11% of students study the natural sciences
  • 41% mainly study the humanities and art
  • 48% of the students combine the above options
  • Among the courses of choice are non-standard options such as yoga, safe driving, developing leadership skills, etc. (not exam)
  • Popular modern languages are popular: more often it's French, Spanish or German (the rest are available on request)
  • Information and communication technologies (ICT) are also included in the list of popular disciplines - girls can even get a prestigious IT certificate
  • You can pass the instrumental exam - at the A-level music courses are offered
  • For study programs of dramatic and theatrical skill, art and design, textiles, ceramics, photography, general art history are available.

For senior pupils, useful production, working practices are organized. Much attention is paid to public works.

The secondary educational program is designed for pupils of 14-16 years, completing the course of incomplete secondary education.

GCSE is designed for 2 academic years. In the curriculum there are also compulsory subjects (for example, English and mathematics), and electives that students select according to their taste and interest (in all, 16 different options are offered). The GCSE certificate, generally accepted in the UK and Northern Ireland, is highly regarded around the world: it provides an opportunity to attend the Sixth Form courses and further to universities.

Popular contemporary subjects are French, Spanish, and German (the rest on prior request). You can study information and communication technologies (ICT), pass a specialized exam and get an IT certificate. All pupils of this stage pass the exam on communicative systems and business.

Many students choose music and performing skills, theatrical and dramatic art, design and visual arts as additional subjects.
