School description

Sedbergh School is an independent private school for mixed education for children from 4 to 18 years (day form and board). The total number of students reaches 530 people. The school is located in the county of Cumbria, in the town of Sedberg - this is the north of England, you can get to London in about 4 hours.

Sedbergh School was founded in 1525 by the rector of Eton College, Roger Lupton (he was born in the Sedberg church parish in 1456) and initially accepted for studying only to young men. Girls were able to study here only relatively recently, in 2001. The first building was built in 1528 on the site of the present library. The school is sponsored by the Cambridge St. John`s College, which can appoint and dismiss its directors. In 1551 the institution was almost reopened as a grammar school, received significant funding. In 1874, a special governing body of a sufficient degree of independence was established, which led to significant development, prosperity and expansion: a large construction and re-equipment was carried out in 1870. Already at the end of the 19th century, a chapel was built, a special elite club of Old Seberghians graduates was established, a system of prefects was introduced, the tradition of the annual Wilson Run started, and a single slogan, "Dura Virum Nutrix", was approved.

Sedbergh School is an active member of the prestigious Directors and Headmasters Association of The Headmasters 'and Headmistresses' Conference - HMC, regularly tested by the Independent Schools Inspectorate. The last check in 2011 made it possible to earn the following estimates:
