Quick overview: Serious and thorough pre-university preparation (stage Sixth Form-12-13 grades, 16-18 years), designed for 2 academic years. The A-level certificate with excellent marks is valued so highly that it gives its owners the opportunity to enter even the best, most prestigious universities without additional entrance examinations and examinations.
All subjects for the personal curriculum students choose themselves - the list of available disciplines is very extensive, covering all areas of knowledge and fields of science:
Usually in the first year of study (AS-level) students stop at 4-5 subjects, of which in the second year (A-level) there are only 3-4, on which exams are taken. Brief information: The course completing the part-time secondary education program is designed for children aged 14-16 (10-11 grades) and lasts 2 academic years. A General Certificate of Secondary Education is required for all those who plan to continue their studies on the Sixth Form (A-level, IB) programs and to continue their studies in the university.
Usually in the final GCSE exams 10-11 disciplines are surrendered - including mandatory ones, which are attended by all students, and optional, which are chosen at their own discretion. For foreign students, the number of exams can be slightly reduced (within the international version - IGCSE).
Basic, compulsory subjects:
Subjects of choice (electives) - of which each student must choose at least 4:
Among the subjects of choice, at least one foreign language should always be present. Foreign students, for whom English is not native, can choose the course EAL (English as a second language) as an exam and do not necessarily pass English literature. Natural sciences can be studied both separately (3 different courses) and in the Double Award Course - so successful completion of the course is equivalent to passing two exams at the GCSE level.
Additionally, those who wish can prepare for various tests and language examinations: Cambridge FCE and CAE, IGCSE / ESL and IELTS. Novice students, in addition to the EAL course, undergo a special introductory program: they get acquainted with the history of Great Britain and Bath, the school itself, and undergo language adaptation.
