Description

PREPARATION FOR MASTER (Pre-Masters).

1. Age of participants: from 20 years

2. Duration of the programs: 1 semester

3. Classes start: May

4. Knowledge of the English language: IELTS 5.5 (minimum 5.5 in all sections)

5. Level of education for participation in the programs: Bachelor's degree of international standard (must coincide with the direction of education)

6. Participants: foreign students (including from the EU countries).

The program is designed to prepare foreign applicants for admission to the Master's program at John Moores University. To participate in the program, you must have a bachelor's degree in the relevant field of study and correspond to the level of knowledge of the English language (if necessary, the student first goes to English language courses, where he increases his level).

The educational program lasts 1 semester and includes:

  • Classes in Academic English
  • Development of research skills for magistracy
  • Academic disciplines in the chosen direction.

During the education, students gain the necessary knowledge of the subjects, improve their English and master effective skills in the Master's program. After the successful completion of the program, graduates enter the first course of the master's program for the chosen specialty from the list of available courses.

Direction "Business, Management and Law".

Educational program:

1. Main modules:

  • Academic English and research skills. The study of the main sections of the English language - grammar and vocabulary, conversation and writing, presentation skills, public speaking and defense of one's point of view (ultimately the level should meet the requirements of IELTS 6.5). Development of critical thinking skills, analytical and evaluation skills, methods of scientific research in the magistracy
  • Business and management. Topics and areas of study: academic concepts and issues related to the management of operations, organizational strategy and organizational behavior with an emphasis on critical evaluation of ideas and applications; Limitation of business models and management theory. The education also includes mathematical and IT applications to support learning and modeling real-world situations to develop skills in applying theory to practice

2. Optional modules:

  • Introduction to the economy. The range of issues and problems studied: economic theories and systems; The economic environment in which enterprises and other organizations operate. During the course, students develop critical knowledge on economic topics, issues and contentious issues
  • Introduction to legal research. Students study the principles of legal methods, legal arguments and legal concepts; develop skills of legal reasoning, both in written and oral form. Actively studied materials of legal subjects in legal textbooks, journal articles, charters and case law. Ultimately, students must learn how to effectively use this knowledge in their research and arguments.

Educational program (main modules):

  • Academic English and study skills for magistracy. The study of English language skills for magistracy and research skills for magistracy
  • Calculations. The course is aimed at gaining knowledge about fundamental concepts in the field of computer science and understanding of hardware, software and issues related to design and ease of use. Students master the skills of using and the process of selecting various IT applications and the basis for each specific situation. The nature and methods of software development and processes of computer interaction with social, organizational and individual factors of the user are studied. By the end of the module, students should demonstrate knowledge of the basic concepts, key technologies and elements of physical infrastructure used in computer technology
  • Mathematics. The module is focused on updating knowledge and developing the general mathematical skills necessary for a successful process of studying in a magistracy in the chosen direction. Themes: linear, second order, ordinary differential equations with constant coefficient and their application to modeling of engineering problems. Students also learn to apply mathematical software, such as "Mathcad" in solving problems and problems related to the direction of learning.
