Description
International Study Center
Academic levels of English can be achieved at the Kent College Canterbury ISC. The center emphasizes the thorough study of English in the shortest possible time. Programs for foreign students allow them to prepare for studying according to the standards of British education. The International Study Center prepares for examinations in English upon admission to the universities of the world. Foreign students, studying at ISC, live in hostels and are socially adapted to life in Britain. Their classes include sports and extracurricular activities, interaction in groups with other students. The international studying center of the college accepts children 11-17 years old. In each class an average of about 6 people.
7 - 9 years of study: for admission to the International Study Center does not require a high level of knowledge, all those who wish to study English are accepted. In addition to intensive studying in academic English groups, foreign students also simplistically study the main subjects of the general course of the British school. The higher the degree of proficiency in English, the more common subjects can be further studied. In the ISC the French language, natural science subjects, mathematics, and art are offered. By level of knowledge, students are divided into groups of 6 people. Teachers make up an individual educational schedule, depending on the individual data and the quality of previously acquired knowledge. Little schoolchildren learn through games and creative pursuits. For advanced level, traditional classes in classrooms, familiarity with literature and mass media are envisaged. The transition to the study of basic subjects occurs only after reaching a certain level of English proficiency.
10 - 12 year of study: the International Study Center credits adolescents who have passed IELTS tests at level 5 (moderate), as well as foreign students with a weak command of English. Foreign students 10 - 12 years of study are English from a few months (1 term) to the full academic year. The main goal of this program is to prepare for entering the UK's classical school of the tenth year of study (or the sixth form). The main direction of the program are reading, speaking, writing and listening. In the future, for effective study of other subjects, the teachers of the center expand the vocabulary of schoolchildren and improve their knowledge of grammar.
Backward students can expect a flexible curriculum and additional support outside of the studying schedule. An individual approach is provided for all levels of study.
After completing 10-11 academic years, students take an ISCSE international standard exam at the ESL rate. Thirteen years of study are completed by IELTS exams. The College provides the opportunity to take examinations at the University of Cambridge at three levels:
- PET (Preliminary English Test);
- CAE (Cambridge Advanced Certificate in English);
- FCE (First Certificate in English).
