The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB DP)

  • Age: 16-17 years (Diploma Program)
  • Grades: 12-13
  • Standard: IB Diploma Program
  • Full-time study or residence.
  • International School of Milan offers teenagers from any country of the world a popular and demanded graduate program in accordance with the IB standard - one of the most prestigious standards of school education available all over the world. The Diploma Program (IB DP) is a unique program aimed at providing the highest level of knowledge and comprehensive development. A distinctive feature of the school is that it successfully prepares graduates on this standard since 1987, and during this time the most talented students came out of its walls. Every third graduate gets 38 points or more - this result is considered a benchmark for admission to the highest level in the leading universities in the world. These results are especially impressive, given that the school accepts students for the final program, not only for academic merit. It is believed that as many young people as possible should have access to this training program, and therefore come to the IB have a variety of applicants.

Also during the training, teachers and specialists pay attention not only to academic development and raising the level of knowledge in academic disciplines, but also to broad spiritual and moral development: awareness and curiosity, concern for surrounding people and the world, empathy. Adolescents learn intercultural understanding, openness and respect for others' opinions.

The program is designed as six academic areas around the central core and encourages parallel learning of a wide range of academic areas:

  • Two modern languages
  • Subject of Humanities or Social Sciences
  • Experimental Science
  • Mathematics
  • One of the creative arts or an additional subject from one of the above groups.
  • Items are divided into 6 large groups, from the list of which are selected those that are needed:

  • Group 1. Studies in the field of language and literature (Studies in language and literature)
  • Group 2. Language acquisition
  • Group 3. Individuals and societies (Individuals and society)
  • Group 4. Science (Science)
  • Group 5. Mathematics (Mathematics)
  • Group 6. Art (The arts).
  • It is this wide range of issues that makes IB Diploma a very demanding training course designed for effective preparation of students for entering university and for success in life. In each of the academic areas, students have the flexibility to choose - they can choose topics that are particularly interesting for them and for which they may wish to continue their studies at the university. Three subjects (maybe four) are taken at a higher level (HL), and the rest are taken at the standard level (SL) (HL are studied in greater depth and breadth than SL). At both levels, many skills develop, especially critical thinking and analysis.

All schoolchildren actively participate in the three components that make up the basis of the "hexagon". Reflection of all this activity is the principle underlying the thinking underlying the graduation program. Components:

  • The Theory of Knowledge. The course of the theory of knowledge encourages students to think about the nature of knowledge, to reflect on the learning process in all the subjects that they study, within the framework of their program, to establish links in academic fields
  • Extended essay (The Extended Essay). A written work of 4000 words allows students to explore a topic of particular interest, which they themselves chose. The course encourages the development of independent research skills that will be useful to them at the university
  • "Creativity, Activity, Service" (Creativity, Action, Service). Attracts students to experimental learning through various artistic, sporting, physical and professional activities.
  • For each of the 6 subjects studied, the final exam is taken. In addition, to obtain a diploma, you must write and defend an extended essay, as well as complete all the work on the courses "Theory of Knowledge" and "Creativity, Activity, Service."

Students receive broad support for development in the field of higher education and careers and undergo special classes to familiarize themselves with the rules and principles of admission to universities, the basics of proper application and completion of documents, the rules for submitting a resume and the skills of initial promotion through the training and career ladder. The school has many partners in different countries of the world, which helps students to get acquainted with a variety of universities and colleges, receive professional advice and support on any issues. Regularly arranged special fairs and reviews of directions and specialties, employees of universities and companies come to the educational institution with lectures and speeches. The close partnership of the school helps adolescents to choose a suitable university and specialty, and they allow them to better prepare for the admission process.
