Foreign students who enroll in North American higher education institutions often experience certain difficulties in adapting to their lifestyles and educational systems and feel insecure in English, as the level of language, no matter how high, is different from academic standards. To overcome these difficulties and successfully adapt, a special program was developed at Fairleigh Dickinson University, which includes active classes in several broad sections:
- Academic writing skills
- Academic Skills Workshop
- English for professional success
- Business Mathematics
- Applied computing
- Software applications in business
- Special seminars.
The pre-university program is a 15-week course of study offered three times during the school year, and the start and end of the course corresponds to the academic calendar. Upon admission to the program, students receive a conditional admission to one of the undergraduate programs and immediately upon completion of the program, the student can begin training in the basic course. In academic English classes, the most common causes of difficulties for foreign students are addressed: the development of reading, writing, and research skills at the university level, as well as leadership and effective participation in discussion workshops. Students learn basic knowledge, technical terminology and communication skills; develop the skills and strategies necessary to achieve success at university level courses. A small number of groups provides personal attention to each, and the center of learning resources provides additional support in teaching students language and academic materials.
Tuition = from $ 5374 / semester (15 weeks).
