School description

The small private British college Earlscliffe College is designed to teach British and foreign students aged 15-19 years, their preparation for admission to the best universities and higher schools in the UK. The college was founded in 1870 (in 2011-2012 it was significantly modernized and reconstructed), and now only about 60 people study here.

Education here combines both English traditions observed in Oxford and Cambridge, the country's best private schools, and world educational trends (for example, the level of the requirements of the American Ivy League - the community of the best universities in the USA). This is a unique experience that helps students not only to acquire profound, exhaustive knowledge of academic subjects, but also to become fully developed, harmonious individuals who are ready to benefit the society, to achieve their goals and feel comfortable and confident in any situation.

With foreign students, Earlscliffe College has been working for a long time and fruitfully - today, 25-30% of British students here, the other students form a diverse, international and multicultural community based on the principles of tolerance, equality and mutual respect. For foreign students (if English is not their mother tongue), language courses for preparing for IELTS testing are provided: without it, enrolling in English universities is almost impossible, and universities require a high level of scores (usually 6.0-7.0 and higher).

A-level

"Gold standard" of British education and the most common program Sixth Form is designed for high school students in Great Britain. A-level certificate with high scores opens the doors of the most prestigious and ranking universities - as a rule, the student does not even have to pass additional exams and entrance tests.

The course is designed for two academic years. During this time, students study a limited number of subjects that are taught at a complex, in-depth, almost university level: as a rule, this is 4-5 subjects for the first year (AS-level) and only 3-4 of them - for the second year which are the final exams. The disciplines are divided into 5 blocks:

  • A: geography, mathematics, history
  • B: chemistry, higher mathematics, economics
  • C: Physics, Biology, Government and Politics
  • D: accounting, business course, art and design (additional block, selected items are paid separately)
  • E: Russian as a mother tongue, Italian, Japanese, German, French, Arabic, Persian, Portuguese, Turkish, Spanish and other foreign languages.

From each block it is recommended to choose one discipline (not forgetting to learn the native language): so it is possible to prevent duplication of the course and the repetition of the curriculum. As a rule, students choose the most priority subjects for themselves, based on personal preferences and interests, as well as on the requirements of the chosen university and faculty. Teachers and consultants, personal coaches are always ready to help children to form the individual curriculum. In each classroom, no more than 9 people are engaged, which ensures an individual approach to each student, the proper amount of personal attention.

International Transition Year

A special one-year course is designed for foreign students from 15 years and older. It helps to prepare as quickly and effectively as possible for studying in basic, programs of British school education (GCSE or IGCSE, A-level and other Sixth Forms), to integrate into a new social, linguistic and academic community, to get used to a new educational and cultural environment.

A special program for foreign students provides active, intensive English lessons combined with studying the basic list of academic disciplines, as well as extra-curricular activities (sports, creativity, excursions, entertainment), along with British peers.

Useful for students of the International Transition Year may be the summer months: they are offered a special program of volunteer or internship at the best enterprises (especially financial and banking), participation in the summer American school of the Harvard's Secondary School Program.

In addition, high school students can participate in the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) program, actively developing their personal research skills and increasing their bonuses to the admissions office of the chosen institution.
