Description

A-level

Two-year course (Sixth Form) of pre-university preparation, is designed for pupils of 16-18 years (12-13 grades). A-level certificate with excellent points is highly valued, it is a recognized "gold standard" of British education: it gives the right to enter even the best, most elite and ranking educational institutions without additional entrance examinations and tests.

The students choose independently all subjects for the personal plan: so they can give maximum attention to the most priority disciplines necessary for admission to the chosen university for the desired specialty. During the first year (AS-level), students study 4-5 subjects, of which the second year (A-level) is, as a rule, only 3-4. The choice of subjects is very wide - we give only a few examples:

  • Business
  • Psychology
  • Computer science
  • Economy
  • Information and computer technologies (ICT): can be studied both as a separate subject and as part of other disciplines
  • Foreign languages: French, Spanish, German, classical Latin
  • Dramatic and theatrical art, choreography (at will graduates can pass and profile examination LAMDA - the London academy of music and drama)
  • Art and design: poetry, textiles, photography, printing and editing, theatrical scenery and stage design
  • Some sports directions represented in the school by profile Academies (for example, tennis and cricket).

For high school students and graduates, Culford School organizes a full-fledged, effective career counseling program. Qualified employees help to determine the choice of subjects, to talk about different types of universities, opportunities for studying and choice of specialty, faculty, the process of collecting documents, communicating with the admission committee. For senior pupils, thematic useful lectures, classes, master classes, presentations, meetings with representatives of universities, admission commissions and other specialists are arranged.

GCSE

A two-year educational course is designed for students aged 14-16 (grades 10-11) completing a part-time secondary educational program. The GCSE certificate (General Certificate of Secondary Education) is required for all students who want to continue studying in the Sixth Form (A-level) programs and prepare to enter the university.

In total, 8-10 exams are passed in the GCSE final: some subjects are compulsory for everyone, some are chosen as electives.

Many students choose one or more foreign languages as one of the main subjects. French in the school is compulsory for students 5-14 years (regular student exchanges with France and Germany). In addition, you can learn Latin, German or Spanish. Information and communication technologies (ICT) can also be studied as a separate subject, although some principles and methods of this direction are used in almost all disciplines.

As an exam, you can take dramatic, theatrical art, choreography. Interested students can additionally pass the profile exam of LAMDA - the London Academy of Music and Drama. 35-40 people take exams on art and design every year, including even non-standard specialties:

  • Poetry;
  • Textiles;
  • Photography;
  • Printing and editing;
  • Theatrical scenery;
  • Stage design.

Examinations GCSE can be passed in some sports directions - the school has several profile academies (for example, cricket and tennis), where qualified specialists prepare students almost at the semi-professional level.
