School description

One of England's oldest schools, which celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2011, is actively involved in educational reforms. Charterhouse school supported the introduction of the alternative A-level - Pre-U, and subsequently IB. The scheme became known as "a direct examination road to the university." More than 400 years the school functions as a well-established precision mechanism. Applicants who want to enter here are becoming more and more, the results of the exams contribute to raising the school's ranking.

Charterhouse School is very different from most similar institutions, first of all, a demonstration of excellent taste in everything. The exterior of the college is an elegantly decorated campus area with an ideally smooth cricket pitch, gothic spiers, turrets of masonry shells. Each building of the school is of historical significance.

Charterhouse teachers maintain a balance between school and extracurricular activities. Life here is, of course, not only study. Much attention is paid to sports, leisure. The school encourages self-discipline of its students. The school is practicing mentoring. Each mentor has a small group of students. The teacher helps the children to understand the possibilities of the school, to determine the direction of further development, contributes to the resolution of disputable situations.

Educational courses include the passage of three compulsory and several subjects to choose from. At the national unified examinations 2 disciplines from the compulsory list (English, foreign, mathematical bases) and up to 5 additional subjects are surrendered. The choice can be made from 70 proposed educational directions. The schoolchildren will later study these special subjects at the university.

The study material is mostly held in classrooms. Some hours are allocated for laboratory experiments and self-study of topics. The Charterhouse school pays much attention to preparing individual and homework assignments and monitoring progress. The activity in the class and the test results are taken into account. Successful delivery of national exams allows you to get a GCSE certificate.

The standard A-level program is considered to be the basis for university education. After graduation, applicants get the right to enter the university without additional examinations.

The saturation of the curricula and the small number of studied sciences give the future student the opportunity to gain knowledge of the specialty and practical skills. A-level is characterized by thoroughness and depth of preparation. In the first academic year, students examine four subjects. The second year of education at the A-level requires knowledge in three disciplines. When choosing, it is necessary to take into account academic balance and not to take thematically related sciences.

Charterhouse school continues to divide the subjects into main and optional GCSE programs. The most important courses include history, the foundations of political science, economics, geographical knowledge, mathematics, Greek, religious studies, theater, chemistry, technology and design, physics, biology, cultural studies (classical), history, business, music, English literature, Latin. Auxiliary courses provide for the study of a foreign language and the ability to think critically. Fine arts are also included in the list of courses that are studied additionally. The Charterhouse school considers German, Spanish or French as the basic foreign language.
