In the UK, a certificate of incomplete secondary education is awarded to students who completed their studies in grades 8-9 and passed the required minimum of subjects on a nationwide single exam. The GCSE certificate is issued after a successful examination in two of the three compulsory academic subjects (foreign, mathematics or English) and three to five supporting sciences.
